Villa Medici La Petraia

Villa Medici La Petraia

Leave for a while the hot, touristy historic center of Florence and go to the northern outskirts of the city, where located one of the most beautiful country villas of the Medici period  - Villa La Petraia.

Once owned by the Brunelleschi family, then by the Strozzi, in the middle of the 16th century it passed to the Medici, who rebuilt it into a chic residence, laying out a beautiful park around it. In 1860, the villa became part of the House of Savoy and became the favorite residence of King Vittorio Emmanuele II and his young wife Rosa Vercellana.

The inner courtyard of the villa is striking in its beauty, richly decorated with superbly preserved frescoes, over which a glass roof was built at the end of the 19th century. In the enfilades of rooms there are original interiors, furniture, works of art, among which is Giambologna's sculpture Venus of Florence.

Visit the villa and you will feel the charm and spirit of those times!
